Transportation Instructions
The best way to get to AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run is by taking MARTA to the Midtown Station. Upon exiting the Midtown Station, walk East on 10th Street toward Peachtree Street and continue on 10th until you reach Piedmont Ave. Continue walking along Tenth Street and gradually you will see all of the participants in the meadow area of the park on your left. Walk past the stage and continue to the Check In tent.
If you absolutely must travel by car you may, but the area is extremely congested and parking is very limited. Residential neighborhood streets which are between Ponce de Leon and 10th Street may have some parking available. Examples are: Argonne Ave, Penn Ave, Myrtle Street, Glendale Terrace and all of the numbered streets from "9th Street" down to "4th Street." If parking in these areas, you may have to walk 5 or 6 blocks to get to the park. Watch for posted parking regulation signs in these neighborhoods. The MARTA train is smarter!
What do I do when I arrive at the event?
• Report to the main AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run Check-In tent in Piedmont Park to turn-in all donations for the event. Please make sure that your sponsorship form & envelope have your name & the name of your team on them.
• In order to give appropriate credit for fundraising, we ask that each sponsorship form & envelope have only one participant name on them.
• In order to expedite the check-in process, please have your donation amounts totaled prior to arriving at the Check-In tent.
• If you are eligible for fundraising incentives, you will be given a claim ticket which you may turn in the day of the event to collect your incentive prizes. Incentives are for individual fundraising efforts.
• Volunteer photographers will be on hand to take a team photo of you and your group. E-mail us after the event to get a copy of your photo. Team photos will be taken between 12pm-1:45pm. Team photos will not be available after the Walk begins. We recommend carrying a team sign so that your team can be identified in photos and along walk route.
Additional Tips and Suggestions
• Pick a team meeting spot in advance. This will be a good frame of reference should you and members of your team get separated.
• We recommend that you bring a cell phone to the park so that you can contact those you are hoping to meet up with at the event. There will be no announcements for “lost folks” from the stage.
• You should wear comfortable, light clothing such as shorts and comfortable tennis shoes. If the weather forecast calls for it, bring sunglasses; sunscreen; a disposable poncho or an umbrella in case of rain; and any other personal items you might need.
• Team Land- A special meeting area for those who qualify- based on fundraising efforts. Items left on tables in Team Land will not be supervised. AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run will provide a sign to be posted at the table if you intend to leave personal belongings behind on the table and then return to collect them after completing the Walk. All tables and chairs in Team Land will be broken down by 4pm the day of the Walk. AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run does not accept responsibility for items left on tables at the event. Items will not be supervised by walk staff or volunteers. (See more about Team Land in Team Captain’s Kit)
• Water will be available along the route and refreshments will be available to all registered participants after completing the Walk.
• Please check the weather forecast in advance and dress appropriately.
• Enjoy the day!
