Use the following ideas to help you meet your fundraising goals:
Just Ask!
Ask early and ask often. Ask your family, friends, teachers, co-workers, doctors, lawyers, restaurants you frequent. Keep asking!
Set goals and reach them
Goals are a motivational tool and will keep you pushing along to meet your goals. By determining a personal goal you have something to reach for and you let donors know what your goals are.
Demonstrate your personal commitment
Make an initial donation to your own fundraising campaign. This lets others know that you are committed to raising funds.
Show enthusiasm
Show enthusiasm about your participation and fundraising. Donors will be able to share in that enthusiasm by supporting you.
Tell your own story
Once you have registered, you will be able to set up your walk personal and team pages to tell the story of why AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run is important to you. Are you living with the disease? Perhaps you walk to remember or honor a family member or a friend. Tell us the story of how you became involved and why you still walk. Post pictures of yourself, your walk team from previous year’s walks or the picture of the person that you walk to honor.
Other ideas
- Ask for donations on payday. Folks are far more likely to donate when they have more in their pockets.
- Host a dinner or a cocktail party at your home. Charge an admission fee which covers expenses and a profit to be applied as a donation to your team.
- Start a change jar; decorate it and leave it on your desk at work. Watch how you’re fundraising grows.
- Ask your congregation, club or school to host a dinner. Charge admission and apply the proceeds to your team. You may also get folks to join your team!
- Host an auction. Ask everyone you know if they have goods or services they would like to donate. Massages, vacation homes, cooking lessons, tutoring sessions, guitar lessons, baby sitting services, art work, sports memorabilia, concert & play tickets etc. Watch the offers grow, in turn so will your fundraising!
- Change your outgoing voicemail message to indicate that you have accepted the challenge of raising funds for AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run. Provide the website www.aidswalkatlanta.com so that folks can make on line donations.
- Adjust the signature on your personal e-mail to indicate that you are participating in AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run. Provide the link to your personal page so folks can click on it and donate to your campaign.
- Allow staff/students to purchase “dress down days” or “jeans days” for $5.00 per person/ per day.
- Host an Ice cream social and charge admission. Ask your local grocer or ice cream parlor to donate the ingredients.
- Offer your services as a babysitter; donate the proceeds to your AIDS Walk team.
- Hold a chili cook off. Folks can compete against each other for the title of “Chili Master”. Those that are not in the competition can vote with dollars to help determine the winner. Have several categories: Best, Hottest, Most Original, etc…
- Have a hat day at school. Offer students the opportunity to pay a fee to wear their favorite hat for the day. Offer this opportunity a few times during the campaign, it can really add up!
- Have a garage sale. Ask friends and family to donate items. Sell the items you can & donate the remaining items. Your trash just might be treasure! Pre-schedule a local non-profit to come and pick up any items that do not sell.
- Host a casino night. Charge an admission fee and players can play with “funny money”. The proceeds will be split between the host and the winner’s AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run team.
- Check to see if your employer has a matching gifts program. You can double your contribution!
- Create a thermometer to highlight your teams fundraising progress. Display the thermometer in your lobby or break room so that all can watch your team’s progress.
